LGBT Counseling

What’s Different About LGBT Counseling?

Are you struggling to feel accepted or make your way through the coming out process? Have family relationships been affected? As a result, overcoming personal, romantic, or family issues involving gender and sexual identity can feel like an insurmountable task. You don’t have to do this alone. LGBT counseling can help.

The world has come a long way in the past few decades but we still have a long way to go. While same sex marriages have been legalized in the US, many forms of legal discrimination persist. There still exists a culture of discrimination, oppression, fear and resistance towards the LGBTQ community.

For some, this environment makes it difficult to maintain an authentic sense of self: especially in the face of social expectations and pressures. For others, the social stigma of living as a minority can be a source of stress or anxiety.
The Counseling Center is a Safe Zone for our LGBT counseling clients. Finding a qualified mental health professional who has experience and familiarity with issues that confront the LGBTQ community is critical. Therefore, I believe in providing LGBTQ affirmative treatment. Whether lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, or queer, everyone deserves to be supported, understood, and celebrated.

I help members of the LGBTQ community work through issues related to sexual orientation and gender. I treat mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, and chemical dependency.
